Schreiner's Iris Gardens Awards

High ChaparralOver the years our Iris have received various distinguished awards.

At the American Iris Society's annual convention held in Portland, Oregon, Schreiner's 2006 introduction High Chaparral won the coveted President's Cup, awarded to the very best Iris within the convention's host region.

Dykes memorial MedalDykes Memorial Medal

The Dykes Memorial Medal is the highest award an Iris can receive. It honors William R. Dykes (1877-1925), an English botanist and author of the genus Iris. The Dykes for America is an annual award given by the British Iris Society through the American Iris Society.

We've had the pleasure of receiving this distinguished medal ten times. The Irises honored were: Blue Sapphire (1958), Amethyst Flame (1963), Stepping Out (1968), Victoria Falls (1984), Dusky Challenger (1988), Silverado (1994), Honky Tonk Blues (1995), Hello Darkness (1999), Yaquina Blue (2001) and Celebration Song (2003).

The Men's Garden Club of America awarded Schreiner's the Horticultural Achievement in Iris Award with bearded Iris in 1966.


Foster Memorial Medal Foster Memorial Medal

The British Iris Society awarded Schreiner's Gardens the Foster Memorial Plaque for assiduous efforts in hybridizing new Iris in 1963.


AIS Hybridizer's Medal AIS Hybridizer's Medal

The American Iris Society awarded Schreiner's Gardens their Hybridizer's Award twice, in 1954 and 1998, for noteworthy contributions to the breeding of new Iris.

Perennial Plant Association AwardPerennial Plant Association Award

For noteworthy achievement in hybridizing, Robert Schreiner was honored with the Perennial Plant Association's Distinguished Service Medal in 1988 and the American Iris Society's Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement.

Massachusetts Horticulture Medal Massachusetts Horticulture Medal

The Massachusetts Horticulture Society medal was also awarded to Robert Schreiner in 1975 for his lifetime dedication and service for Iris.
